Jesus, You are the Keeper of my Heart

I stood on this mountain overlooking Santa Barbara thinking, “I am so blessed”. I took this photo at St. Mary’s Seminary during the college retreat. And as I watched this beautiful sunset, I couldn’t help but imagine what heaven will be like. As excitement came over me, I felt a longing to finally be united with God in heaven – I felt restless.

Do you ever feel like there’s something missing in your life, that no material thing can ever satisfy? I’m happy to say that the feeling of an empty space in your heart was made entirely for God to fill. People are constantly seeking for something more – something that can fill their emptiness even beyond what earthly things can do. I know this from personal experience. Before I met God face to face, I felt incomplete. I knew I was living, but not living with a purpose, compassion, love or even knowing who I was. When I finally let God into my life, my heart felt complete.

It’s difficult to fully accept that God is truly present with us. Even though we have the blessing to meet God face to face in the Eucharist during mass and adoration, it still might be difficult to fully accept because there are so many distractions out there that pull us away from faith. As God’s beloved people on earth, we are constantly seeking Him – we are restless until we rest in Him. St. Augustine spoke “Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee”.  But the truth is, is that God is waiting for us to let Him into our hearts because He is restless until you rest in Him. You have a special place in His heart where only you could fill. And once you fully accept his love and let Him enter your life – only then will you find peace and know the true meaning of what it means to be in love with Our Lord Jesus Christ.

                Prayer Challenge:

I know that life get’s busy and stressful. But save just 5 or 10 minutes a day and talk to God (in the morning before school or even the few minutes before you go to sleep) Tell Him about your day, the memories you made or an experience that stood out to you.

To help you get into prayer mode, take a second and listen to Audrey Assad’s song “Restless”. Reflect on where you are with God at this very moment and where you want to be with Him.

Restless until truly united with God,
