The words in Lee Ann Womack’s song “I Hope You Dance” have always been encouraging to me.
It has a great reminder to see the beauty and wonders all around us. I see the chorus of the song, “When you get the choice to sit it out or dance/ I hope you dance,” in several different ways. I find it as an encouragement to be active in our lives instead of passive. Being active involves standing against injustices, turning from sloth, being honest, living out the Gospel, and so much more. We must be careful though because even though we should not just sit back and let life happen, we should not be completely active where we over-commit ourselves or think we can live life on our own, turning from God and forgetting His hand in our life. We must remember God is in control, and we must trust Him throughout life.
The chorus of the song also makes me think of times in life we are given opportunities in life, but we pass them by because of what we think others will think of us.This has happened in many forms in my life. For example, if given the chance to defend my faith or not, I have fallen into sitting it out instead of defending it because I was afraid of what would happen if I spoke up. The only one I should be focused on is God.
Don’t let life pass you by. Be an active participant in this world but not of this world. Remember your blessings, no matter how small. Let God’s love shine through you. Dance for God and with God, encouraging others to do the same.
