Today, we celebrate the memorial of The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Mary kept all the sayings and doings of Jesus in her heart, that there she might ponder over them and live by them. Take a few moments and reflect on where your heart is today.
One of my favorite passages from the Gospel according to Luke was in today’s reading. If you have a chance to read it, I suggest it! To put it in today’s language, young Jesus of 12 years old went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover along with his Mama and Papa. Jesus loved it so much that he stayed in Jerusalem for a little bit longer. Remember those days when we went Disneyland as a kid and you never wanted to leave? In a sense, that is what He did. However, his parents were looking for him for three whole days. If that was my mom looking for me, she probably would’ve of had a heart attack. But all along, Jesus was in the temple (“in my Father’s house”) sitting and talking with the teachers. Don’t worry, Jesus came back to Nazareth with obedience.
I’d like to think we all are a lot like Jesus at the age of 12, where we will do anything to get to know our Holy Father. And on this journey, we might break a few rules along the way. That’s the beauty of innocence. We might not know what we’re doing at times. But if we are striving for that one goal on loving Jesus with our entirety, God’s plan will fall into place – that we will meet him in Heaven.
Blessed Pope John Paul II says “Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.”
Be not afraid,
